* Augmented Reality (AR) / Virtual Reality (VR)

* 2D/3D displays

* mobile displays

* wearables

* any other "immersive" technology

### In all fields that touch:

* 3D modeling

* Manufacturing 

* Installations 

* Maintenance and Repairs

* Construction

* Logistics

* Additive manufacturing

* Training

The technical exchange is a two day event held online this year due to COVID-19. It will feature two days of oral presentations, demonstrations, and posters from leaders in AR/VR and other display technologies, including government briefings on active projects within the DOD. The technical exchange is unclassified and we welcome participation from the Navy, DoD as well as from industry and academia. 

The goals of TEAR 3M are:

*  To spread awareness of current immersive technology research relevant to Navy/DOD applications

*  To connect AR researchers with experts in DOD to learn about needs and requirements

*  To build and strengthen collaborations within the DOD research community

"Fantasmo is mapping the planet in 3D. Fantasmo is a foundational layer that many smart city applications require in order to proliferate. Today, Fantasmo's solutions are being scaled with micromobility operators, but that same platform is useful for autonomous systems, accessibility, augmented reality, defense and security, and digital twin systems. Digital twins alone are not enough to bring these next-generation spatial applications into the real world. Fantasmo's digital twin solutions not only enable standard simulation and monitoring but are used in real-time by emerging applications to position themselves with sub-meter accuracy both indoors and out in order to solve critical obstacles.

This presentation will focus on the types of applications that can leverage digital twins today and the applications and technology that are making digital twin creation and maintenance scalable today. "

Fantasmo: Platform for Digital Twins and GPS-denied PNT

Extended reality (XR) tools and techniques are used throughout the DoD for training, maintenance, and complex data exploration. While XR offers novel ways to access and explore high-value 3D data, it may also attract attention from adversaries interested in gaining access to that data or disrupting training and maintenance activities. Automated security testing could help researchers and engineers discover and mitigate vulnerabilities earlier in the development cycle. Our work demonstrates security test scenarios for XR applications that trace two paths; the happy path (simulating expected, well-behaved use) and the unhappy path (simulating unintended, neglectful, or malicious use). By connecting XR threat models to open source automated testing tools, this work aims to build collaboration between XR and cybersecurity research teams.

Cathy Hackl has been to the far frontiers of tech and will take us on a journey from virtual beings, augmented humans to synthetic humanoid robots (synths), and beyond. When the stakes are so high, what will be the implications for humans in the synthetic decade ahead of us and the coming of the metaverse?"

5G is not just a technology that is being rolled out to consumers by public carriers. 5G represents a new type of network and it offers new opportunities for private deployments as well. It is common knowledge that 5G networks enable lower latency and higher bandwidth, but 5G is also key in enabling edge computing and provides greater control over how network traffic is prioritized and secured. But, at its core 5G is simply a way of connecting and transporting data - as always, the magic happens at the application layer. The big question quickly becomes; “what is possible with more secure, powerful, and flexible networks?” When thinking of rich applications such as augmented and virtual reality training and maintenance solutions, the opportunities are substantial and transformational.

"Today, video game technologies are evolving and moving to the cloud for computational capabilities and storage, not just multiplayer gaming. Commercial enterprises and government entities in particular are utilizing game engines such as Unity3D to build training mechanisms for staff. With the integration of Unity3D into these verticals, many of these applications need to integrate cloud technologies, such as storage, compute, internet of things (IoT) data streaming, AI/ML, and natural language processing, and there is a lack of plugins to rapidly connect prototypes to these platforms. This presentation will demonstrate one method to integrate into AWS services into a Unity3D application.
