SHORT BIO
André F. T. Martins is an associate professor at Instituto Superior Técnico in the University of Lisbon, a research scientist at Instituto de Telecomunicações, and VP of AI Research at Unbabel. He is also a ELLIS Fellow and co-director of the ELLIS Program in NLP. He received his dual-degree PhD in Language Technologies in 2012 from Carnegie Mellon University and Instituto Superior Técnico. His research interests include machine translation, natural language processing, deep learning, and optimization. He received best paper awards at ACL 2009, ACL 2019, and EAMT 2022, and a SCS Honorable Mention at CMU for his PhD dissertation. He is one of the co-founders and organizers of the Lisbon Machine Learning Summer School (LxMLS).
