SHORT BIO
Pete Schwartz: I am interested in sustainability in all facets: energy, resources, equity, and collaborative development, especially with low income communities. In what I see as an imminent transition in energy, resources, and information, I am interested in both the technologies and the related societal transitions. I innovate at home as well as in the classes I am responsible for. If we are to be accountable for our choices, then I think it’s important that we consider alternatives, and be alive the change process within ourselves and ambient society. Our innovations at home: http://sharedcurriculum.peteschwartz.net/files/10%20years%203-7-18.pdf In the classroom, we look at student centered learning in intro physics:: http://sharedcurriculum.peteschwartz.net/parallel-pedagogy/ In the lab, we develop Solar Electric Cooking with a global learning community: http://sharedcurriculum.peteschwartz.net/solar-electric-cooking/ Resume: http://sharedcurriculum.peteschwartz.net/pete-schwartz-current-cv-resume/
Jennifer Klay: Jennifer Klay is a professor of physics at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo. She has a BS in Astrophysics from UCLA and a PhD in Nuclear Physics from UC Davis. Over the course of her career she has been a member of seven innovative nuclear physics experiments in the U.S. and Europe. Her research interests span nuclear physics, nuclear astrophysics, particle physics, computational physics, and physics education. She works with Cal Poly undergraduate students on several projects to explore nuclear collisions at low and high energy. When she is not teaching or researching, she and her family love to explore the outdoors in and around San Luis Obispo.
Owen Staveland: Owen has a BS in Physics from Cal Poly (Dec. 2019). His senior project resulted in our immenent publication: "Pedagogy Changes Can Improve Concept Application" O. Staveland, P. Schwartz, The Physics Teacher, in press He is the physics teacher your high school needs this fall
