Ján Rusz was born in Košice, Slovakia in 1979. After graduating in physics at the University of Pavol Jozef Šafárik in his hometown, he pursued his PhD studies at the Charles University in Prague, Czech Republic, receiving the degree in 2005. After one year working as a researcher at the Charles University and Czech Academy of Sciences in Prague, Jan moved to Uppsala University for a post-doctoral position. In 2010 he became an assistant professor, and since 2016 he is an associate professor in the Materials Theory Division at the Department of Physics and Astronomy of Uppsala University.
