Jan-Philipp Weberpals
AUDI AG, Germany
SHORT BIO
Dr. Jan-Philipp Weberpals studied mechatronics and automation technology at the University of Stuttgart and graduated as an engineer in 2004. He worked at the Institute for Beam Tools (IFSW) at the University of Stuttgart until 2010 and obtained his doctorate as a PhD engineer in 2010 on the topic of the benefits and limits of good focusability in laser beam welding. In 2011, Dr. Weberpals moved to technology development department at AUDI AG as an expert for laser beam processes in car body construction. In the following years, he and a development team developed laser beam remote welding of aluminum alloys susceptible to hot cracking, which Audi uses in aluminum vehicles worldwide. Since 2017, he has increasingly devoted himself to laser beam processes in electromobility and has been the responsible developer for laser beam processes for high-voltage battery module production. This year, Audi was able to set another benchmark through this work with the holistic approach for laser beam welding for cell contacting of battery modules with highest quality through the use of AI embedded sensors.
