"Kary Främling is a Professor in Data Science at Umeå University in Sweden, where he is the founder and head of the Explainable AI (XAI) team. He has been an active AI researcher since the 1980's. His XAI research began in 1991 but was on hold since 1996 while he was focusing on Internet of Things (IoT) and Intelligent Products. Kary is an author of over 100 articles published in scientific journals and conferences, including the (presumably) first article that mentions the IoT in 2002. Since then, Kary has been the main architect of IoT systems in various domains, such as buildings, HVAC equipment, vehicles, supply chain management etc. His current main research focus is on Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning and XAI, applied to the above-mentioned domains."
