SHORT BIO
"About Dr. MM Agrest Mikhail M. AGREST, was born in Moscow, Russia in 1949. He absorbed the love of Physics and Mathematics, Philosophy and Religion as well as Humanism in its positive meaning while, at the age of two, during his father, Mates M. Agrest and Andrei Sakharov’s long discussions of their mutual research, he was bouncing on the lap of the last. Mikhail M. Agrest received his MS in Mathematics and Mechanics with a strong interest in Fluid Mechanics from the St. Petersburg State University, Russia; while doing his research for the Russian Academy of Sciences, he used his high quality education and skills to solve numerous problems in the field of the membrane science and technology. Mikhail M. Agrest received his Ph.D. in Physics & Mathematics from the Russian Academy of Sciences and stayed performing research at the Institute for Analytical Instrumentation of the Academy of Sciences for almost 20 years. Having a strong commitment towards education, Dr. Mikhail M. Agrest taught numerous graduate and undergraduate level students, who now successfully work all over the world. When Dr. Mikhail Agrest immigrated to US in 1992, he started teaching both Physics and Mathematics at numerous Colleges in South Carolina acquiring the experience of teaching in the US. The list of his simultaneous teaching places includes: College of Charleston, The Citadel, Trident Technical College, Limestone College, University of SC in Beaufort. Dr. Mikhail M. Agrest returned to The Citadel in 2014 as an Adjunct Professor of Physics after a 20-year leave teaching at the College of Charleston. Dr. Agrest brings international experience to The Citadel, having his degrees from the University of St. Petersburg, Russia and the Russian Academy of Science, where he had nearly 20 years of research experience in membrane science and technology. Dr. Agrest enriched his teaching abilities in physics and mathematics in Russia and various American schools. (Please see his CV.) Through publishing and participating in numerous meetings of the American Association of Physics Teachers, Dr. Agrest promotes his teaching philosophy: ""Learn how to distinguish difference in the similar and how to find the similar in difference."" and ""If you KNOW HOW, you always have a JOB; if you know WHY, you are the BOSS."" In 2017, the national DAR Society honored Dr. Agrest with its prestigious Americanism Award for Patriotism for years of outstanding educational instruction and his leadership and service to the community and country. Dr. Agrest enjoys swimming and playing volleyball with the Cadets. He loves The Citadel Family. Dr. Agrest has been married to Marina Agrest, a piano performer and teacher since 1969. Dr. Agrest's son Arkady [1970} and daughter Inga 1979 are also musicians and they live in Charleston."
