SHORT BIO
Michael Qureshi is a 4th-year medical student at the FIU Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine. His interest in Point-of-Care Ultrasound (POCUS) was peaked during his 3rd-year Internal Medicine clerkship, where he, his co-author Fabio Garrote, and his preceptor Dr. Guillermo Izquierdo-Pretel utilized bedside POCUS to evaluate a patient's pleural effusion volume status. Upon visualizing the fluid present and estimating the effusion volume, Michael and the team decided to review the literature to see how the equation they used was validated. They soon learned that there were in fact several equations for volume estimation of pleural effusion using ultrasound, and thus set out to determine the accuracy and clinical utility of the available formulas. Michael is currently applying for a residency position in Internal Medicine-Pediatrics (Med-Peds).
