Shannon Kilgore, MD, FAAN, FANA, serves as the Deputy Associate Chief of Staff for Education and the Director of Stroke Services at the VA Palo Alto Health Care System. A Clinical Associate Professor of Neurology in the Department of Neurology at Stanford University School of Medicine, she also serves as the VA Site Director for the Stanford neurology residency program. Clinically, she serves as both the stroke and Parkinson Disease (PD) specialist in her department, teaching medical students, residents and geriatrics fellows and conducts research in PD. For the VA Palo Alto Office of Education, she supports nearly 2000 trainees and program directors across the health care professions. A native Texan, Dr. Kilgore graduated from the University of Texas as Austin with a degree in psychology and received her medical degree from the University of Texas Houston Health Science Center Medical School, now McGovern Medical School. She completed her neurology residency, as well as fellowships in Movement Disorders and Cerebrovascular Disease, at Stanford. She then brought that unique combination of clinical interests to the VA and has remained there since, with an interest in advancing multi-disciplinary care.
