Engin Serpersu

SHORT BIO

Dr. Serpersu completed her doctoral degree in biochemistry at the Hacettepe Medical School in Ankara, Turkiye. Then he went to Germany with an Alexander von Humboldt Fellowship and later he ended up at Johns Hopkins Medical School as a post-doctoral scientist before becoming a faculty member at the University of Tennessee. He currently works as a Program Director in the Molecular Biophysics Program. Dr. Serpersu started working in MCB in June 2014. He is involved in Program Management, outreach activities, and community development activities. He also provides advice to investigators, participates on strategic working groups, represents NSF in international funding activities in Molecular Biophysics. He coordinates the funding decision process, maintains cluster budgets, develops post-panel reports, and coordinates cross-directorate activities including multi-disciplinary panels. He is the CAREER Program representative for MCB Division and the Biological Sciences Directorate. He is also representing Biological Sciences Directorate in Quantum Information Science and Engineering working group. Dr. Serpersu’s area of expertise, funded mostly by NSF, is in Protein Structure, Function, Dynamics, and Thermodynamics. Prior to joining the National Science Foundation, he spent 25 years as a Professor at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville Campus. In his spare time, he greatly enjoys playing volleyball, cycling, and walking on beach.
