SHORT BIO
Samira Afzal received her Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering at the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering (FEEC), University of Campinas (UNICAMP), in November 2019. Her research was carried out in collaboration with Samsung R&D Institute Brazil (SRBR), working on improvements in the MMT protocol due to the multipath transmission capabilities in heterogeneous wireless networks resulting in standardization contribution and granted INPI BR and US patents. From 2020 to 2021, she was a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Sao Paulo and LSITEC, Brazil, working on Collaborative Mobile Surveillance System in roads of smart cities, and SWARM. Since October 2021, she has been working as a postdoctoral researcher at Alpen-Adria-Universität (AAU) Klagenfurt, Austria, working on Apollo and GAIA projects in the area of video encoding on the computing continuum and energy efficiency for multimedia systems. Her main research interests are video streaming, video standards including codecs and network transport protocols, energy efficiency, Cloud, Edge, and Fog computing.
