SHORT BIO
Alexei V. Samsonovich is a Professor at the Cybernetics Department of the National Research Nuclear University MEPhI in Moscow, Russia since 2015. He received a Ph.D. in Applied Mathematics from the University of Arizona for his now well-known computational study of the hippocampus performed with Prof. B.L. McNaughton in 1997, then worked at the Krasnow Institute for Advanced Study of George Mason University, where his highest title was Assistant Professor. Since 2013, the main research focus of Dr. Samsonovich is on biologically inspired cognitive architectures (BICA) supporting socially emotional cognition. His main brainchild is the eBICA framework, integrating semantic maps and moral schemas into a cognitive architecture. Dr. Samsonovich is directing a number of research projects based on eBICA. He is the head of BICA Lab at ICIS NRNU MEPhI, founding president of BICA Society, founding chair of the BICA conference series, EiC of the BICA*AI Section of CSR, author of more than 100 WoS/Scopus-indexed papers (Scopus H=21), recipient of the James S. Albus Medal Award of 2019.
