SHORT BIO

She holds a Doctor of Philosophy in environmental health of Royal College of Surgeons-Ireland (RCSI), MSc. Environmental Sciences: Limnology and wetland Ecosystems of UNESCO-IHE, The Netherlands and BSc. Fisheries and aquaculture of Makerere University. Dr Nalwanga is currently a lecturer and researcher at Makerere University. Her research interests lie in the fields of water, sanitation and hygiene practices-WASH, food safety and hygiene management systems, Environmental Microbiology-bioremediation, Water Quality Assessment and Monitoring, climate change, Aquatic ecology, Fisheries and aquaculture. She has attained a number of certificates. She has taken part in several national, regional and international project collaborations and activities which include; • Exploring community integrated control methods of banana bacterial wilt disease in Uganda and Tanzania (2018-2020). • Availing safe drinking water to less privileged communities –Slum settlements through the use of locally made ceramic filters- Principal Investigator (2018 – 2021). • Promoting Urban aquaponics fish farming with catfish and solar energy powered systems Principal Investigator (2019 – 2021). • Socioeconomic and Cultural Contexts for Delivery of Safe Water, Sanitation, and Resource Management in Informal Settlements in Uganda: safe global water initiative project in Informal Settlements of Uganda”. In collaboration with the University of Illinois (Urbana-Champaign)-USA. 20,000USD) - Technical team member (2018- 2019) • Improving access to youth employment opportunities in the oil and gas industry in western Uganda”. In collaboration with Texas A and M university -Technical team member (2017-2018). She also holds several certificates; a certificate in sustainable water resources management, Dundalk institute of Technology, Ireland; International post graduate certificate in tropical limnology, Egerton University, Kenya; and Post graduate certificate in Household water treatment from EPEL-Switzerland.
She has published over 8 papers in peer reviewed journals and has mentored over 6 MSc students in areas of WASH, climate change, food safety; and fisheries and aquaculture.
