Piero Amodio, MD, FRCP worked in the Department of Medicine of the University Hospital of Padua. Former Associate Professor of Internal Medicine and Director of the Interdepartmental Research Centre for Neuropsychiatric Complications in Internal Medicine, he retired in 2018. Now he is Consultant for Internal Medicine in a Private Clinic for Mental Disorders and Professor in charge for the Monitoring of Psychiatric Therapies in the Pharmacy School of the University of Padova.

His research concerned metabolic, nutritional, haemodynamic aspects of cirrhosis and particularly hepatic encephalopathy. He organized a laboratory for cognitive and electrophysiological research, gathering a valuable research team. He served as President of the International Society for Hepatic Encephalopathy and Nitrogen Metabolism (2005-2008) and was writer of guidelines about HE.
