Researcher at ISPRA (national Institute for Environmental Protection and Research) from 2004 and in charge from 2017 of the section on “Sedimentology and geochemistry of the marine sediments for the integrated assessment of the quality of the coastal marine environment.” Member of several European working groups on behalf of ISPRA and the Ministry of Environment on environmental topics (ECOSTAT, UNEP MAP, SedNet, etc.) National qualification as University Associate Professor from 2020 Organizer of several workshops and courses on the topic of marine sediments and benthic foraminifera Teaching activity about sediments and grain size analysis in training Agencies for the Marine Strategy (MSFD) Co-tutor of master and PhD thesis at Italian Universities

Research topics  Study of the textural and mineralogical characteristics of marine sediments finalized to recognize the origin of sedimentary input and the feature of sedimentary environment also developing suitable methodologies for grain-size analyses of marine sediments  Assessment of the environmental quality of coastal marine areas and related effects due to anthropogenic impacts through the definition of environmental quality standards and background values in marine sediments  Recent benthic foraminifera as environmental indicators in marine and transitional affected by anthropogenic activities, particularly industrial activities, and mining exploitation and extreme environments such as marine caves  Geochemical composition of foraminiferal tests in relation to trace element contamination

Editor activity:  Editors Board of the Journal of Soils and Sediments as Subject Editor for Sediments / Section 1 “Sediment quality and impact assessment”  Guest Editor in 2020 of the SEDNET special issue in Journal of the Soils and Sediments “Sediments as a dynamic natural resource – from catchment to open sea”  Guest Editor in 2009 of the special volume of Marine Pollution Bulletin “Foraminifera and Marine pollution”
