SHORT BIO
Sangjin Ryu is an Associate Professor with the Department of Mechanical and Materials Engineering, the University of Nebraska-Lincoln (UNL), and a faculty member of Nebraska Center for Materials and Nanoscience of UNL. Dr. Ryu received the B.S. and M.S. degrees in Mechanical Engineering from Seoul National University, South Korea, in 1997 and 1999, respectively, and the Ph.D. degree in Mechanical Engineering from Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 2009. Dr. Ryu worked as a researcher for Daewoo Commercial Vehicle, Korea for 1999-2001 and Agency for Defense Development, Korea for 2001-2004. He also worked as a postdoctoral researcher at Brown University for 2009-2011. Dr. Ryu’s research interests include experimental fluid mechanics, microfluidics, interfacial fluid dynamics and cell mechanics. He teaches undergraduate/graduate level fluid mechanics courses, and he also gives informal engineering lectures on Japanese animation under the title of “Professor Otaku.” Dr. Ryu was the recipient of UNL College Distinguished Teaching Award and Holling Family Master Teacher Award from UNL (2019), and Outstanding Faculty Award from UNL Pi Tau Sigma (2019).
