SHORT BIO
Dr. Rameshwar Pratap is an Assistant Professor at the School of Computing and Electrical Engineering (SCEE), IIT Mandi. He earned his Ph.D. in Theoretical Computer Science from Chennai Mathematical Institute (CMI).
His research work lies in the intersection of theory and practice. Broadly his research work falls in the areas of “Algorithms for Data Science”. However, his special focus is on sketching/dimensionality reduction algorithms and sampling algorithms to handle the large dimensionality and volume of the datasets. Currently, he is emphasizing on: 1) developing new sketching/dimensionality reduction algorithms for various data types and similarity measures, 2) improving existing sketching/sampling algorithms by making them faster, scalable and accurate, and 3) exploring the applicability of such results in various machine learning tasks. He uses techniques from matrix algebra, sampling, random projection, and randomized hashing.
