SHORT BIO

Alfonso Serrano-Heredia is graduated in 1982 as a Bachelor of Physical Sciences from Tecnológico de Monterrey (ITESM), later obtained the Master degree in Applied Physics from the Center for Scientific Research and Higher Education of Ensenada (CICESE), Baja California, Mexico in 1991, and obtained his Ph.D. in Optics from the National Institute of Astrophysics, Optics and Electronics (INAOE), Puebla, Mexico in 1994. He also carried out a post-doctorate in the area of Electro-Optics at the Electro-Optics Research Center of the Pennsylvania State University, United States, in 1995. As a researcher, Serrano Heredia has participated and directed scientific projects, has published articles in journals of international circulation, and has been advisor in bachelor's, master's and doctoral theses. He has been member of the National System of Researchers (SNI) in Mexico, as well as the Mexican Society of Physics (SMF), the Mexican Association of Optics (AMO),the International Society in Optical Engineering (SPIE), and the American Association of Physics Teachers (AAPT) at Mexico. Dr. Serrano has 40 years of teaching experience in physics and mathematics courses, in several educational institutions at high school, professional and postgraduate levels, he is full professor in the area of Physics at the Tecnologico de Monterrey, Mexico, where he was former director of the Academic Program in Engineering Physics. He received the recognition "Award for Honors Excellence in Teaching", and is member of the Circle of Distinguished Professors at Tecnologico de Monterrey. In recent years, Serrano Heredia has been working on projects on new educational models of teaching-learning, and is an instructor in teacher training courses and workshops in innovation and educational technology.
