SHORT BIO
Bilal is an Applied Scientist at Amazon Web Services. He completed his PhD at Max Planck Institute for Software Systems. His research interests are mainly in the area of human-centric algorithmic decision making. Specifically, his work focuses on issues related to fairness, explainability, robustness and privacy in algorithmic decision making systems. He has published in leading machine learning and data mining venues, including NeurIPS, AISTATS, WWW and KDD. His work has received wide recognition by the research community including a Best Paper Award at COSN'15, a Best Paper Honorable Mention Award at WWW'17, a nomination for CNIL-INRIA Privacy Award'18, and the Otto Hahn Medal from the Max Planck Society in 2021.
