The OWSD General Assembly and international conference will be held entirely online for the first time in OWSD's 28-year history, allowing as many of OWSD's 7600+ members to participate as possible.

The conference theme is 'Women, science and development', exploring three areas of relevance: 1) the importance of basic sciences for development; 2) the impact of applied sciences on development and 3) including sex and gender as variables in scientific research.


**Keynote speakers include:** 
* Fabiola Gianotti, Director-General of CERN; 
* Bina Agarwal, an internationally celebrated economist specializing in the political economy of gender, poverty and inequality; and 
* Angela Saini, award-winning author of Inferior: How Science Got Women Wrong and the New Research That’s Rewriting the Story, Superior: The Return of Race Science, and other books. 

OWSD members will present their own research in the three themes during poster sessions throughout the conference. In addition, members will also present their own scientific and personal responses to the COVID-19 pandemic. All members will also have the opportunity to take part in a workshop on increasing their visibility and impact as a scientist, with a session on using podcasts for storytelling by Joy Owango and Adelle Onyango of the Training Centre in Communication (TCC Africa), followed by a session on filmmaking for impact by Nicole Leghissa, OWSD video consultant.

The conference will include a handover of the previous OWSD Executive Board to the new members, elected in June-July 2021. On the last day of the conference (19 November), the OWSD Italy Country Network will be launched. **This will be an in-person event in Trieste.** Italian government representatives and donors are invited to attend. The Trieste event will be coordinated with similar in person events being held in OWSD countries throughout the developing world and streamed online. At least 2,000 OWSD members, women scientists from developing countries around the world, are expected to participate online in the General Assembly and conference.

**ABOUT THE PROGRAMME**

In order to approach the complex and wide-ranging challenges of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, societies around the world must access and harness all the talent and experience available to them. The concerns and perceptions of the greatest number of all possible actors and recipients must be considered in order that the most relevant issues and effective solutions are found. Women are considerably underrepresented as researchers in STEM subjects around the globe; according to UNESCO Institute of Statistics (UIS) data, in 2019 the global average percentage of women researchers was still below 30%. Yet women typically have first hand specialist knowledge of the day-to-day challenges diverse individuals face within communities, and can be key informers in the design and development of their solutions. Moreover, since women are most often the providers of informal community support, if they are not fully informed—and if solutions are developed without their consultation—it may be the case that products, services and solutions are not relevant or appropriate. Technological advances may mean improved machines on large farms, for example, potentially increasing food production, but since the key points of food insecurity in the world are on small-scale farms managed by women throughout the Global South, such capital investments will have little impact in the areas where food production is most critical—and where women’s knowledgeable implementation of appropriate innovative technologies could make the most difference.

O GidLab é um serviço para experimentação de P&D em Gestão de Identidade (GId), ofertado pela RNP, com objetivo de disponibilizar para comunidade acadêmica um ambiente configurado e configurável com infraestruturas de autenticação e de autorização para pesquisadores, desenvolvedores e alunos que desejam conduzir seus experimentos em GId. O serviço visa oferecer também uma consultoria especializada de P&D em Gestão de Identidade com ambiente de experimentação disponibilizado sob medida. Essa consultoria conta com transferências de tecnologias que envolvem padrões que viabilizam a Gestão de Identidade, como o SAML, OpenId Connect, os frameworks Shibboleth e simpleSAMLphp, as tecnologias envolvidas no eduroam, entre outros.

GIdLab - Serviço para Experimentação em Gestão de Identidade

Network Borescope é uma ferramenta visual e interativa, com estrutura de dados otimizada, para análise eficiente de fluxos de dados através de algoritmos de Inteligência Artificial. O objetifo do projeto é o desenvolvimento desta ferramenta-protótipo capaz de identificar violações do acordo de serviço de uso do sistema RNP por parte das instituições conectadas através dos POPs regionais.

O envio de feedback é uma etapa fundamental do processo de ensino aprendizagem. É através do feedback que o aluno percebe os seus erros e acertos o que o leva a refletir sobre a aprendizagem e continuar buscando novos caminhos para desenvolver as habilidades propostas durante a disciplina. Apesar de ser um processo importante, enviar feedback é bastante custoso e trabalhoso. Por isso, muitas vezes os professores não são capazes de conciliar essa atividade com as outras demandas das associadas a docência. Diante deste contexto o projeto feedback bot propõe a utilização de inteligência artificial para auxiliar o professor no envio de mensagens de feedback. Este projeto busca propor um produto que responda a seguinte pergunta: “Como melhorar o feedback enviado aos estudantes de modo que ele seja de qualidade, personalizado e escalável?”.


GT-FeedbackBot

Ao longo dos últimos anos, as empresas e instituições vêm evoluindo os processos de medições de rede, dentre estas a Rede Nacional de Pesquisa (RNP). Esta evolução é extremamente desafiadora, visto que a carência de certos processos internos estruturados para dar suporte à coleta, armazenamento e disponibilização dos dados medidos da rede. A partir disso, a RNP visa implantar uma plataforma específica para a coleta e disponibilização de dados medidos da rede através de orquestração e automação da instalação de componentes e das suas configurações. Dentro deste contexto, surgiu o GT-MicroMon, que visa projetar e desenvolver a plataforma MicroMon. A MicroMon é uma plataforma baseada em Microsserviços para coleta e compartilhamento de medições de rede. A abordagem de Microsserviços faz com que a MicroMon possa realizar diversas tarefas de forma automatizada, escalável e extensível em ambientes de Nuvem. Ao utilizar uma arquitetura de microsserviços, a plataforma MicroMon permitirá que diversas ferramentas de medição de rede já implantadas na infraestrutura da RNP sejam acessados a fim de realizar as seguintes tarefas: coleta, anonimização, organização, armazenamento, gerenciamento e compartilhamento de dados para fins de pesquisa, engenharia e segurança.

GT-MicroMon

O projeto NECOS aborda as limitações das infraestruturas atuais de computação em nuvem para responder à demanda por novos serviços, conforme apresentado em dois casos de uso. O primeiro aborda o provedor de serviços de Telecom, orientado para a adoção da computação em nuvem em grandes redes. O segundo, tem como alvo o uso de nuvens de borda para oferecer suporte a dispositivos com baixa capacidade de computação e armazenamento.
O NECOS visa automatizar o processo de configuração de nuvem e rede, fornecendo um gerenciamento uniforme com um alto nível de autonomia para os recursos de computação, conectividade e armazenamento, atualmente separados, baseado no conceito LSDC (Lightweight Slice Defined Cloud).

O MonIPÊ é um serviço de monitoramento de redes, capaz de medir, com alta precisão, a qualidade de transferências de dados fim-a-fim para pesquisa colaborativa. A ferramenta possibilita avaliações de desempenho de redes e a execução de medições como atraso unidirecional e bidirecional, perdas de pacotes e vazão.

Serviço MonIPÊ - Monitoramento do Desempenho da Rede Ipê

Ocariot is a project co-financed by the HORIZON 2020 Program of the European Union and by the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation of Brazil through the National Education and Research Network (RNP). The project started in November 2017 and lasts for three years.

Childhood obesity is the main pediatric public health concern, affecting around 224 million school-age children worldwide. Its prevalence has tripled in many European countries since 1980, increasing at an alarming rate. Childhood obesity already affects more than one in three school-age children in Brazil, Greece and Spain. The main objective of OCARIoT is to promote the improvement of eating and physical disorders and also to prevent the onset of obesity in children (between 9 and 12 years old). To this end, OCARIoT will develop a personalized coaching solution based on IoT that guides children to adopt healthy eating and physical activity behaviors.

Nesta apresentação, é descrito o projeto SDN Multicamada, financiado pela Huawei e executado pela RNP. Primeiramente, são apresentadas as principais motivações deste projeto e, em seguida, é descrito o laboratório a ser disponibilizado, finalizando com uma pequena demonstração do emulador construído.
