al *LIV Congresso internazionale della Società di Linguistica Italiana ''Corpora e Studi Linguistici''* che si tiene qui in rete nella piattaforma fornita da Underline. Il Congresso si sviluppa su 3 giornate divise in:

* cinque Sessioni plenarie, 
* due Sessioni Demo dedicate ai corpora italiani e internazionali, 
* una Sessione Poster e 
* una Sessione workshop con 5 workshop in parallelo. 

Gli interventi orali saranno sia in diretta che preregistrati, secondo la volontà degli autori, ma per tutti sarà possibile l’interazione dal vivo con domande e risposte. A tutte le sessioni si accede attraverso le icone sulla sinistra di questa pagina. 
 Nelle sessioni Poster e Demo ci si muove virtualmente tra le proposte attraverso Gather-Town, che permette ai congressisti anche di incontrarsi in qualsiasi momento nella Lounge virtuale.

**Welcome** to the *54th Congress of the International Society of Italian Linguistics ''Corpora and Linguistic Studies''*
which is held here through the Underline Platform. The Congress develops in 3 days which host:

* five Plenary sections, 
* two Demo sessions, 
* dedicated to Italian and international corpus building initiatives, 
* one Poster session and 
* one Workshops session hosting 5 workshops in parallel. 

Oral presentations are given in synchronous or are pre registered according to the will of each author, however Q/A will be live for all. All sessions can be accessed through the icons on the left side of this page. 
 In the Poster and Demo sessions you will be able to move among the various items though Gather-town. Congress participants can always meet in the Virtual lounge.

Negli ultimi decenni le lingue a corpus chiuso come il latino non vengono più concepite come lingue omogenee, essenzialmente scritte e letterarie, ma come diasistemi (Conde-Silvestre e Hernández-Campoy 2012). Di conseguenza, analisi di stampo variazionista sugli allografi presenti nei testi epigrafici hanno ricevuto grande attenzione nell’ambito della linguistica sia latina che romanza (cf. ad esempio Herman 1965, 1985, 2000; Marotta 2015, 2016; Adamik 2017, 2019), anche in rapporto ad ampi database epigrafici che sono stati sviluppati negli ultimi decenni (ad es. l’Epigraphische Datenbank Clauss-Slaby: http://www.manfredclauss.de/it/index.html). Nonostante tali strumenti siano disponibili per un vasto numero di aree dell’Impero, finora non era disponibile un corpus annotato che includesse le iscrizioni latine della Sardegna, permettendo l’analisi dettagliata di fenomeni linguistici rilevanti. La Sardegna romana può invece rappresentare un fertile territorio d’indagine, in ragione dei caratteristici esiti romanzi delle varietà sarde e della scarsità di altre fonti scritte (cf. Herman 2000 e Lupinu 2000).
Per queste ragioni, è stato creato un corpus epigrafico diacronico annotato che raccoglie le iscrizioni latine della Sardegna a noi pervenute. Il corpus contiene 1184 testi, per un totale di 14413 tokens, ed è liberamente accessibile all’interno del database CLaSSES (Corpus for Latin Sociolinguistic Studies on Epigraphic textS, http://classes-latin-linguistics.fileli.unipi.it/), sviluppato presso il Dipartimento di Filologia, Letteratura e Linguistica dell’Università di Pisa. Le iscrizioni incluse nella sezione ‘Sardegna’ coprono un arco temporale esteso, dal I secolo a.C. al VII secolo d.C., appartengono a diverse tipologie testuali (iscrizioni pubbliche, private, funerarie, sacre e diplomi militari) e coprono l’intero territorio sardo, anche se sono maggiormente concentrate nelle aree costiere. I testi sono stati digitalizzati e annotati con informazioni linguistiche, extralinguistiche e metalinguistiche. In particolare, ogni token è associato a un identificatore univoco, e sono specificate la provenienza dell’iscrizione, la datazione, la tipologia testuale, la lingua (latina, ibrida, greca, neopunica), la forma grafica (abbreviazione, parola completamente o parzialmente integrata, ecc.) e il lemma. In questo modo, è possibile svolgere rapidamente ricerche all’interno del corpus, esaminando le possibili correlazioni tra la variazione ortografica riscontrabile nei testi e le variabili sopra menzionate, prescindendo da variazioni di tipo flessivo. Una delle caratteristiche innovative del corpus consiste nell’analisi linguistica dei singoli tokens, incentrata sugli aspetti ortografici delle forme esaminate. Le varianti devianti rispetto alla norma classica sono state manualmente identificate e classificate tramite specifiche etichette che indicano il fenomeno di allografia individuato, in modo da permettere all’utente di esaminare i testi secondo una prospettiva variazionista. Ad esempio, una forma come <MENOS> per <MINVS> è stata etichettata come ‘Vowel alternation - Classical , /ĭ/ = <E>’ e ‘Vowel alternation - Classical , /ŭ/ = <O>’ (Marotta et al. 2020). Si mostrerà come un corpus di questo tipo possa costituire un’utile risorsa per lo studio del latino di Sardegna, anche in rapporto all’evoluzione romanza. Diventa così possibile ricostruire un ‘profilo linguistico’ per il latino di Sardegna, che risulta caratterizzato da un sistema vocalico maggiormente stabile rispetto a quello consonantico, prefigurando elementi di continuità con il sardo-romanzo (cf. Vincent 2016: 4).

La sezione Sardegna del corpus CLaSSES

Much has been observed about the types of changes in heritage languages (HLs, varieties spoken in a minority context outside the homeland of a language). Work conducted in an experimental framework has reported primarily simplification, attrition and incomplete acquisition. The Heritage Language Variation and Change (HLVC) corpus, in contrast, permits examination of HLs as produced spontaneously in more relaxed conversational contexts. Through this methodology, we find a greater balance between retention of homeland patterns and variation suggesting change over time. Here we focus on the Italian data from the HLVC corpus, which has data from 10 languages. All languages have been sampled and archived in the same way. Recordings of conversational speech are available for four groups of speakers: homeland and three successive generations of heritage speakers (Gen1, Gen2, Gen3). The homeland Italian speakers have always lived in Calabria, Italy, and were recorded in conversation with other Calabrese speakers in 2013 in Calabria. Gen1 speakers were also born and raised in Calabria until at least age 18 but subsequently have lived for at least 20 years in Toronto. Gen2 speakers were born in Toronto (or arrived before age 6), and their parents qualify as Gen1. Gen3 speakers were all born in Toronto and their parents qualify as Gen2. Heritage speakers were recorded between 2009 and 2019 in Toronto. The target is 40 heritage and 12 Homeland speakers per language, to provide a sample distributed across genders and age groups in each generation. All data was collected and analyzed following the standard Labovian sociolinguistic interview protocol (Labov 1984). All interactions were initiated and recorded in Calabrese Italian. In addition, participants respond to an Ethnic Orientation Questionnaire (describing their language use preferences and practices, social network and ethnic orientation) and complete a brief picture description task. Instruments and further methodological details are available in Nagy (2009, 2011, 2015). From the conversational speech transcribed in ELAN (Wittenburg et al. 2006), a number of sociolinguistic variables have been examined from a variationist sociolinguistic perspective. This consists of coding many/all tokens of the variable for relevant contextual features and for social attributes of the speaker who produced each and then conducting multivariate analyses (Mixed Effects Models) to see the relative size and direction of effect of each factor. Here we focus on the linguistic features of null subject and VOT (voiceless stop aspiration) (Nagy 2015, Nodari, Celata & Nagy 2019). The two variables are interesting for distinct reasons: null subject is a major element of morphosyntactic differentiation between English and HL, whereas voiceless stop aspiration, which is present as a phonetic feature in both languages, has socio- indexical value in homeland Calabrian speech, particularly in unstressed syllables. Based on HLVC data, we show that rate of presence/absence of null subject pronouns does not differ significantly by generation since immigration or from available homeland comparators, thus questioning the view that attrition or incomplete acquisition are prevalent in the heritage language contexts. HL speakers also show no evidence of VOT lengthening in stressed syllables as a consequence of contact with English; in contrast, they do show progressive de-aspiration of unstressed syllables, particularly in the shift between Gen 2 and Gen 3.Moreover, some cross-generational changes are non-linear, as Gen3 speakers reproduce some of the patterns attested in Gen 1 speech. We will discuss these data and highlight the importance of corpus-based sociolinguistic methodologies for the study of variation and change in migratory settings.
