Missing Aortic Valve Leaflet in Double Valve Replacement Surgery

Although uncommon, the loss of artificial valve components during surgery has been documented in the literature. If a valve fracture occurs intraoperatively, parts of the valve can either remain within the heart cavities or migrate distally into the thoracoabdominal aorta or aortic bifurcation. When the disc fragments, it may be found in the iliac, femoral, or even popliteal arteries. Historically, computed tomography (CT) scans have proven more effective in locating these fragments compared to plain radiography, angiography, and ultrasound.
