Before joining AGI, Ryan was stationed onboard the USS Carl Vinson on NAS North Island, San Diego. After 3 deployments he moved to Colorado to obtain his bachelor’s degree in Aerospace Engineering from the University of Colorado at Boulder, and is looking forward to returning to his fond roots in San Diego to collaborate with industry leaders during the AFCEA TechTalk event!

 **Software-Defined HPC Acceleration for Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning Applications, and Scientific Computing**

Mr. **[Jon Scadden](https://underline.io/speakers/183672-jon)** with the Federal Systems Integrators + Navy talked on Software-Defined HPC Acceleration for Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning Applications, and Scientific Computing.

Applications with highly specific, dynamic, or unpredictable requirements such as AI, ML, DL, HPC, CFD, Matlab, Ansys, Openfoam, Spark, MXNet, Tensor, Cuda and even VDI usually use very expensive internal PCIE computational devices such as GPUs, FPGAs, DPUs, and NVME SSDs. These devices, typically installed INSIDE traditional server chassis are shackled and stranded there in single application handcuffs and have a net usage signature of 10-15%. Like owning a 5 bedroom home and only using one room. Conversely, many applications have burst requirements of many more of these devices but cannot use them because of acquisition delays and the physical limitations of server homes. An Nvidia A100 costs $15,000 each but most servers cannot host more than one.

**The Robots are Coming!**
 
 Most of us have seen the classic 1984 Arnold Schwarzenegger film “The Terminator.” In popular culture, robots are seen as either benign helpers or evil agents. The reality is more mundane. Today, most robots handle a limited number of well-defined and repetitive tasks. Thanks to software, artificial intelligence, and high capacity computing, however, that paradigm is changing, and changing fast. 
In this tech talk, XSITE Chairman and former NAVWAR Chief Engineer **[Jim Rodman](https://underline.io/speakers/190977-jim-rodman)** will look at some recent examples of smart robots and their ingress into the Commercial and Defense markets. These smart robots can tackle missions and environments, routine and dangerous, with higher availability, reliability, and fidelity than their frailer human counterparts. He will also touch on the ethical challenges we face as these technologies mature and proliferate. As Aldous Huxley wrote in 1931, it is a truly a Brave New WorId.

**Tactical Networks – Leading from the Front to support the Warfighter**
 
 The Navy is taking proactive steps to adopt and implement data science, machine learning, and artificial intelligence into its programs and systems. Within the PEO C4I, PMW 160 Tactical Networks Program Office Program Manager, Captain Katy Boehme, is not only looking at how these advanced analytics can help her organization perform faster, more efficiently, and with more agility – but she is also embracing organizational change by implementing tailored agile constructs across the PMW and advanced engineering capabilities, such as MBSE. This will help her organization “lead from the front” in support of the warfighter. 
 PMW 160, the Tactical Networks program office, plays a pivotal role in developing, producing, and deploying the LAN and WAN infrastructures that empower Navy leadership and its Warfighters to make data-driven decisions. During this month’s Tech Talk [Charlie Suggs](https://underline.io/speakers/202182-charles-suggs) (former PEO C4I Technical Director) will interview CAPT [Katy Boehme](https://underline.io/speakers/202701-catherine-boehme) and discuss her efforts to champion these critical capabilities in PMW 160. Hear first-hand about how PMW 160 is “leading from the front” – by encouraging learning and development through initiatives, such as data science week, and championing DevSecOps & agile training. Discover how one program office wanted to foster a work environment to improve decision making and did so by adopting organizational changes – changes that provide the workforce with the tools that support intuitive visualization techniques and machine learning. In essence, CAPT Boehme is enabling the continual evolution into an algorithm-driven program management office (Algo-PMO).

**Autonomous Pathogen and Odor Decontamination Services**
 
 Disinfection and cleaning routines have always been apart of standard operating procedure in commercial scopes and within the armed services. All organizations have stepped up oversight and frequency in these areas as part of continuous improvement and for the safety of all in the workplace. These new health-conscious normalcies are here to stay, but need improvement to fit within the rapidly evolving and complicated environments we all work in. This means improvements in methods and technology that delivers a safer, cleaner environment for all with a less complicated and labor-intensive procedure.
