<br>**Bio**:  Jens Palsberg is a Professor and former Department Chair of Computer Science at University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA).  His research interests span the areas of programming languages, software engineering, and quantum computing.  He is a member of the ACM Executive Committee, the chair of ACM SIGPLAN, and a member of the editorial board of Information and Computation. He is also a former editor-in-chief of ACM Transactions of Programming Languages and Systems, and a former conference program chair of ACM Symposium on Principles of Programming Languages (POPL).  In 2012 he received the ACM SIGPLAN Distinguished Service Award.

<br>**Bio**: Prof. Brown's research interest is the control of quantum systems for both understanding the natural world and developing new technologies. **Bio:**  Austin Fowler has worked on quantum error correction (QEC) for over 15 years, starting with a PhD in quantum computing at the University of Melbourne in 2005. His current focus at Google is the practical side of building a real-time QEC system for a superconducting quantum processor, which entails a focus on the surface code and high-speed decoding.

**Bio**: John Martinis did pioneering experiments in superconducting qubits in the mid 1980’s for his PhD thesis. He has worked on a variety of low temperature device physics during his career, focusing on quantum computation since the late 1990s. He was awarded the London Prize in Low temperature physics in 2014 for his work in this field. From 2014 to 2020 he worked at Google to build a useful quantum computer, culminating in a quantum supremacy experiment in 2019.

**Speaker**:  Shruti Puri, Yale

**Bio**:  Shruti Puri is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Applied Physics at Yale University. She received a Ph.D. in Applied Physics from Stanford University in 2014, after which she conducted postdoctoral research at the University of Sherbrooke from 2014-2017 and at Yale University from 2017-2020. Her research centers on the theory of quantum information processing and quantum optics. She is interested in the use of these theories to address open questions and applied challenges in the emerging quantum technologies. In particular, her research focuses on designing efficient protocols for quantum error correction, control of open quantum systems, quantum simulations, and quantum algorithms. Recently, she has been interested in harnessing the computational advantage of systems with bosonic quantum statistics.
