My name is Ben Maxey, and I am currently a third-year medical student at Louisiana State University Health Shreveport. I've always had a passion for developing and implementing technology that can improve healthcare outcomes. My undergraduate education was in electrical engineering, where I began prototyping a post-op monitoring and bladder irrigation system for the Urology department at UT Southwestern. Most recently, the COVID-19 pandemic prompted me to turn my efforts toward mechanical ventilators and improvements in emergency manual ventilation. I hope to continue using my engineering background in research throughout the rest of medical school, residency, and beyond!
